Accordion ContThe canals are a residential area and are not zoned for commercial activity such as boat rentals. You can bring in a boat from outside if you have a spot to launch it.
For starters, no motorized boats. Also, boats can be a maximum of 18 feet long, or a max of six feet wide; the combined length plus width can’t exceed 21 feet. Max draft: 2 feet; and max height above the water: 3.5 feet.
The Venice Canals welcome visitors with row or human propelled boats. There is a public boat launching ramp at 501 N. Venice Blvd. between North and South Venice Blvd. In order to protect the Salt Bush, wildlife, and wetland vegitation, no boats my be launched from the public sidewalks.
The Water Level is based on Maitenance, flooding and tide conditions. The water in the Venice Canals is salt water that comes from the Ballona Lagoon and the Pacific Ocean. There are gates at the end of Ballona Lagoon and the Marina Del Rey Channel, in addition there are gates at Washington Blvd. and Grand Canal. The North Venice Canals water is flushed at least twice a week, usually around Monday and Friday, based on tidal conditions. In addition, whem there is maintenance work on the Venice Canals, the canals are emptied for the maitenance team to help clear the canals of Algae blooms, trash, etc.
For the health and safety of the wildlife, including the ducks along the Venice Canals, it is important no feeding of the wild life. The fowl eats mullocks, algae, etc. and it is best they consume natural foods, and not be feed human grade foods. In addition, it is important the wildlife stay wild, and not become domesticated, so they can best survive as wildlife. It is the law. Please only observe and enjoy the wildlife, so that they may live well along the Venice Canals.
For your health and safety, we recommend against swimming in the Venice Canals.
The Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation (BOS) will pick-up from your driveway large or bulky household items, such as mattresses, couches, other furniture and metal household appliances. The service is free of charge, but you must make a reservation. Have an itemized list ready. BOS does not collect automotive parts, construction materials, commercial materials, and cardboards. Cardboards are only collected as a Move In/Move Out service not as a bulky item pickup. Bulky Items are collected on Monday, our regular trash pick-up day. You can make a reservation by phone or send a request electronically. Make your pick-up request by Tuesday of the previous week. Call 1-800-773-2489, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 AM and 4:45 PM.
